So much of Obamaland is in turmoil that it’s difficult to address any one scandal without doing an injustice to the others. So I will do a tour d’horizon of the lot.
Benghazi. This scandal exists solely as a testament to Hillary Clinton’s bungling and the culture of feminism in government. Hillary and the administration did nothing sinister until they started lying and obfuscating about what was simply their own incompetence. The Administration was initially reluctant to intervene in Libya but the combination of European intrigue and Hillary’s desire to demonstrate her toughness led us to intervene nevertheless. Hillary, like most Feminists, manifests certain traits in office. I learned these while working in government under such women. Once learned, they are never forgotten. Chief among these is that men are never to be placed in a situation in which they might look good in comparison to the reigning matriarch. The other is that making the matriarch look good is not the most important thing; it is the only thing. So when Hillary’s handmaidens got the Ambassador killed, it was simply impossible to admit that he was as much a victim of their bungling as he was of the Muslim fanatics. Attention had to be shifted away from Hillary and her circle of public policy geishas. So they made up a story about a film no one saw causing an attack they just couldn’t prevent.
The long term consequence of this is that no one can now pretend that Mrs. Clinton is the reincarnation of Catherine the Great, leading her nation to victory. She is exposed as a glory-hunting political harridan who couldn’t run a taco stand in Dallas. It is also clear that any man who works for Mrs. Clinton can expect no help in a pinch from her or her coven. Hillary must now find enough suicidal men willing to serve in her 2016 run for the Presidency. Good luck.
The IRS scandal is more serious. In allowing his IRS sycophants to persecute his political opponents, Obama confirmed all the dark suspicions many Americans have of him. Obama does indeed govern like a third world “Big Man.” He doesn’t understand our two party system. Some of us understood this from the beginning. We understood that an affirmative action case who learned how to play the game in the academy could never be an effective politician. He cannot distinguish opposition from treason. He cannot understand people who disagree with his leftist mentality. He can see them only as malicious. So he sets the dogs on the opposition, just like good leftists always do. Now it’s caught up with him.
Those of us who have waged the ideological wars from the right are familiar with the IRS as the tool of the party of government. They came after me twice during the Clinton years. Fortunately my returns were so simple that all they could do was ask for more money. Congressmen can and do set the IRS on people they find troublesome. It’s reported that Al Franken, professional clown and US Senator via voter fraud, called the IRS out on someone just recently.
Obama’s unjustified overconfidence and unreasoned self esteem leads him to play the aloof great man in DC, a town where you can never have enough friends. He treats the Democrats in both houses of Congress little better than he treats the Republicans. He refuses the give and take of ordinary governance in a government of three autonomous branches. He lectures not just the populace but other, elected leaders. He poses as if he were not just the President but the preceptor to the nation, grading our performance in erecting the perfect America he claims to envision. Behaving in this way, it’s difficult for a man to have colleagues or confidants. The only one we know of is the rather dodgy Valerie Jerret, a Chicago political fixer from his community organizer days.
So we learn that while he postures as the Solon of America, his government is suppressing the rights of citizens. And just as he had no knowledge of the Fast and Furious scandal, or the IRS Scandal or the Benghazi affair or dozens of other messes, he takes offense at any mention of his responsibility to run the executive branch in a decent and professional manner. He is surrounded with people who obfuscate, and in whom no one believes anymore. He has no friends.
Finally, there is the AP scandal. This is the scandal that can, and I think will, doom his administration to irrelevance. Anyone who has put together an administration knows that you must do nothing to provoke the press corps, especially when the press is already on your side. Yet Obama allowed Attorney General Holder to wiretap AP reporters as well as working journalists from the networks. It is this incredible act of stupidity that will weigh down the Obama administration from now on. Consider this, Obama has opened more intrusive leak investigations than all previous administrations combined. More by far than the ever reviled Nixon. This is part of Obama’s Third World mentality. His enemies are enemies of the state, to be pursued wherever they may be found. To journalists these people are sources and are indispensable. By treating both journalists and sources as his enemies, Obama cast off the sympathies of the only people left who actually liked him and were willing to spin his increasingly implausible skein of mendacity before the public. Now even Chris Mathews refuses to defend the man who “sent a tingle up my leg.”
I don’t expect any impeachment proceedings. But I do expect more scandals and an increasingly impotent Presidency.
