THE WAR HAGS

It is difficult to credit the stupidity with which our country is reacting to Russian moves in the Crimea.  The silliness is so general among all factions and parties that it is impossible for me to cover it all in a general way.  I will address just one here. 

It's clear that President Obama like President Clinton before him, has little interest in foreign affairs.  He likes toying with domestic affairs to the extent that it doesn't jeopardize his fund raising or post elected career choices.  He must field a foreign policy team never the less.  His answer is to appoint unattractive white people he doesn't much like so that they may relieve him of the burden of responsibility; thus, Secretary of State Clinton then and Secretary of State Kerry now.  

Since he really doesn't have a philosophy of international affairs he is inclined to look to those in his party who most lust after getting their hands on real live foreign policy controls.  Now it's a fact that beyond the Israel Lobby, there isn't much interest in overseas matters among Democrats.  Only when foreign governments send us money will that happen. There are a few exceptions.  Hispanic congressmen will pimp for foreign latin businessmen for  instance.  

There is one and only one great force within the Democratic Party that seeks foreign policy power assignments, the War Hags.

They are the face of muscular Democracy promotion on the left.  And as we all know, the real men in the Democratic Party are all women.  In the last two Democratic administrations the tuff jobs have gone to the likes of Janet Reno, Janet Napolitano, Madeleine Albright, Susan Rice, Samantha Power and of course Hillary Clinton.  There are a great many more.  If Bill Clinton or Barak Obama needed someone to face down congressional committees or order SWAT teams to tear children out of the arms of their extended families, the answer was obvious.  Call in the kind of woman who holds a grudge, a law degree and has suspiciously big hands.

The downside to this approach is that the kind of women who crave foreign policy power are precisely the kind of women who should never, ever, have any.  We have seen that whether it's Albright or Clinton, the desire to prove they can join the boys club causes these harpies to mimic actual boys.  We bombed the Serbs, killed Gaddafi, connived in the over-throw of  various presidents and just lately, helped over-throw the elected government of Ukraine.  We now face off against Russia in her own sphere of influence to no real purpose save that we wish to dictate events.  

The War Hags who engineered all of this claim that they are fighting for Democracy.  Their liking for Democracy exists only until the people they unleash vote the wrong way, as in Gaza, or Egypt.  Then the democratically elected must vanish at our displeasure.  If you have any doubts, ask President Morsi.

In the minds of such as HillaryClinton, Madeleine Albright, Susan Rice or Samantha Power, the temptation to show how tough they is more than a temptation.  It's an obsession, and one to be proud of.  The War Hags have taken on the mentality of the very bullyboys they claim to supplant.  And this explains at least in part, why our country carries itself so poorly in the world.  When not colluding in the destabilization of other sovereign states, they nag others at the UN. They take deeply anti-tradional posses, unsettling to friend and foe alike. They insist on injecting emotional language in diplomatic discourse. They represent our nation's neuroses more than our interests.

I have no idea how the Democrats can fix this.  They are so much the party of feminism that to say no to these witches may not be an option.  

As for the GOP, they have a similar but smaller problem.  The Republican ladies bomber corps is smaller and tied with the traitorous Neoconservatives.  Their shelf-life is dwindling.  A new libertarian wave is gathering force and it wants nothing to do with wars for Israel.  Even if the Neocons win they lose as the party will dissolve and they will have to go back to being Democrats again.
